Signed in pencil along bottom of print, "41/50, Maiden, Toko Shinoda," an early work by a very important contemporary Japanese print maker now 102 years old, print is an excellent impression from this series, matted and framed under glass.

Shinoda's artworks are held in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York among many other leading international institutions and significant private collections. Trained in traditional calligraphy from early childhood, Shinoda rebelled against its strictures in her early teens. After her first solo show in Tokyo in 1936 she began to experiment with abstract painting and was included in a ground-breaking show of modern abstract calligraphy at the Museum of Modern Art New York in 1954. She has continued her career and still is producing art to this day.
