Utagawa Hiroshige is one of Japan's most famous and recognized woodblock print artists of the Edo period (1615-1868). This rare vertical diptych shows the Fuji River flowing between steep snowy cliffs. It is known that Hiroshige visited this region in 1842 and he probably crossed the Fuji River. Impressions of this print are held in leading museums including Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Tokyo National Museum among others.
