17th century or earlier, signed on middle left hand side, ink and colors on silk, depicts the Buddhist-Taoist purgatory, specifically the tenth court of Hell where souls are given their final judgement, after drinking tea from Mrs. Meng, their memories are cleared and their souls are spun on the wheel of rebirth to decide what they are incarnated as in their next life, animal or human, seen on this painting floating up into the heavens or turning into dark creatures and descending further into Hell.

DOA: 65.5 x 36.75 in.

Some repairs to silk throughout, especially the upper right hand corner; overall very good condition for age.
