Branded internally J ALBERT MANUFACTURER OF AMERICAN * VIOLINS, PHILA. with a one-piece figured maple back. A 1998 replacement value appraisal for insurance purposes by R. Nowell Creadick of the Hillmusic Violin Shop (now Chapel Hill Violins) reads "Violin, stamped on the interior, back , J. Albert, Philadelphia, (circa 1890) being, in our experience, an original Albert stamp. The model shows Amati influence, and is constructed of very fine native woods: maple and spruce. The finish is a brown color over a golden base and exhibits a spirit-based quality, The condition is nearly perfect, showing slight scuffing from use. The principle measurements are corpus 358.5 mm. the rib heights being 27.5 upper, 28.5 lower."
