Roberts was named the first “Artist of the Year” by the city of Winston-Salem and the Sawtooth Center for Visual Design in 1986-87. Born in Norfolk, VA, Roberts studied art at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, VA and later at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and with Isabel O'Neill in New York. She exhibited extensively throughout her lifetime, including a showing at Hammer Galleries' 50th anniversary exhibit in New York City.
