Richmond, circa 1800, mixed hardwoods and poplar, the set is composed of two arms and four sides, each arm chair with thirteen spindles, bamboo turnings to the stretchers and splayed legs, the undersides of the seats retain partial labels.

Arm 35.5 x 22.5 x17 in.

The chairs were purchased in 1964 by Frank Horton. Mesda notes that the chairs have a history with the Calhoun family of South Carolina. They were deaccessioned from Mesda to benefit the building fund.

Unusual to find a set of six chairs originating from the same shop. William Pointer appears in the 1782 Richmond census; his obituary was published in 1808.

Arm chairs with arm break and old repairs; two side chairs with seat repairs and looseness; the chairs of this set were originally painted green.
