19th century or earlier, Sanskrit or Newari inscribed along the back and front of the lower base, rolled up paper inside the hollow body of the sculpture, gilded copper, Sarasvati is seated with four arms, she holds implements in her two upper raised hands, dressed regally with a crown and elaborate earrings.

H: 6.5 in.

Given to Stewart Edwards by the Royal family of Nepal for his service and friendship in the late 1950s.

Good condition appropriate for age; some loss and rubbing to the gilding and remnants of red paint; mandorla is secured with aged rope; base shape has been wrought uneven on sides and back.
