Large Burmese Buddhist Panels from Kamawa-sa

Early 20th century, Burmese gilt and red lacquered wood panels with black painted writing, most likely of black tamarind seed ink, four center sections have writings in Pali and the top and bottom panels are the book covers, entire lot composed of (16) red-lacquered and gilded palm leaf folios and two covers, (12) folios are unframed and loose.

6 x 24.5 in. (each); Frame DOA 43.5 x 29 in.

From the collection of a gentleman who worked for the state department starting in the late 1950s and later for the United Nations. He and his wife lived in many places in Southeast Asia and also in Ethiopia.

Some very minor rubbing to mounted folios and covers.
