In the late 19th century this set of dental instruments belonged to Abram Heard Saffold, M.D., D.D.S. of Senoia, Georgia (born 1828). He allegedly inherited it from his father, who carried it during the Civil War. In 1880 the set was saved when the
younger Saffold's home was destroyed by fire. Included here is a 2000 letter
penned by an anonymous great-granddaughter in which the dental set is discussed extensively. Her information is supplemented with an original 1898 prescription in Dr. Saffold's hand and a few xeroxes of relevant letters and documents.

Interior velvet with loss; instrument set is not complete; large chip to interior of case, proper right side; some oxidation to the instruments.
