John W. Spencer's The Confederate Guns of Navarro County (Corsicana: The Texas Press 1986) is illustrated with a plate showing McKie's inscription in the 1862 Regulations offered here. The author goes on to claim that "McKie's cavalry company was one of the toughest in the Trans-Mississippi Dept."
