Born in 1937, he spent many years in the newspaper business. In the 1980s he began to take photographs in a serious way, and his study of his neighbors resulted in his first book, 'The Neugents: Close to Home.' His work is represented in suh major collections as the Museum of Modern Art, the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts - Houston. He is the recipient of grants from the Guggenheim Foundation and the North Carolina Arts Council."
