Born in New York City in 1934, Sigmund Abeles grew up in South Carolina. He received his AB in Fine Arts in 1955 from the University of South Carolina before returning to NYC for further study at the Brooklyn Museum School, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and Columbia University. His works are included in numerous public and private collections including the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in NYC.
