Oil on canvas (lined on linen canvas and sheet aluminum), depicting the flags of French, American, British, and Dutch flying above their respective factories, the bustling waters in the foreground, presented in the likely original gilt frame with applied ornament at corners. SS 19 5/8 x 24 7/8 in.; DOA 25.75 x 30.5 in.

By descent through the family of Calvin Durand (CT, 1802-1884) Mr. Durand was a clerk and, later, partner in the commission house of Goodhue & Company, New York City, NY.

Some re-touch and infill to craquelure visible under black light inspection; professionally restored and conserved circa 1974; allover craquelure.
