Durand / By Ship Clarendon / from China / June 1842 / Brought by the Supercargo R. P. Dana / for C. Durand" and "Imported by Goodhue May / to Canton / 1842," also inscribed "Frame and picture of / Chinese production;" presented in the original mahogany frame.

By descent through the family of Calvin Durand (CT, 1802-1884) Mr. Durand was a clerk and, later, partner in the commission house of Goodhue & Company, New York City, NY.
