Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Circa 1970, a whimsical soft sculpture, unbleached muslin and faintly colored stitchery; cylindrical form, the top reading: "Bureaucracy a government by groups of officials / a bureaucrat an official in a bureaucracy" over five figures with folded hands and bare feet. Encased in a clear plexiglass box with frosted white base.

Case: 14 x 18.5 x 18.5 in.

Private collection, Greensboro, North Carolina

"The Bureaucrats" features several of Gurrier's master-craftsmanship. As seen here in her use of strictly off-white colors, such as the unbleached linen and subtle use of color as in the figure's facial features and high relief sculpting of the figures to achieve variations in depth just as a sculptor of hard mediums.
