Mr. John Harsen Rhoades was a wealthy New York businessman, also well known for his art collection. His papers and exhibition catalogs are housed at the Frick Art Reference Library, Brooklyn Museum, New York Public Library, and the Yale University Library. Katherine Nash Rhoades served as Freer's personal assistant from 1920-1921, she was the daughter of Mr. Lyman Rhoades, brother to Mr. John Harsen Rhoades.
