Meiji period, signed on the underside, with a high scalloped rim, overall dark rust metallic ground with gilt decoration, the interior well showing a high relief falcon about to dispatch its prey.

Estate of Henry Marcelle, Westport, CT Mr. Marcelle was a Sinclair Oil Corp. executive, first hired in 1922. He acquired these lots while traveling for business in China and Japan from the late 1930s through the 1950s.

A few barely noticeable chips to the lacquer; wear to the edge gilt; moderate age cracks, especially to the underside of the rim.
