19th century, three scenes from a poem are presented behind glass in a linen mat, the whole cased in a wooden frame with gilt highlights. Each picture is accompanied by text, the two peripheral images depict outdoor laborers while the central painting shows fashionable Chinese ladies approached by European-looking children. One of the youngsters, in fact, appears to be carrying a small Dutch flag.
