1920s-1930s, one of 358 cast iron plaques that were placed along the Boone Trail Highway, stretching from Virginia Beach to San Francisco. Here Alonzo Chappel's famous 1861 painting of Daniel Boone has been translated into iron which is also cast with the claim: METAL FROM BATTESHIP MAINE IN TABLET.

21.25 x 15.5 in.

The Boone Trail Highway was the brainchild of Mocksville, NC's J. Hampton Rich. Most of his markers have long since been lost or destroyed.

Intact with overall oxidation as expected.
