Vintage New York-Based Photography Portfolio
Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Contains approximately (70) silver gelatin prints, different sizes, mostly large with many on 16 x 20 in. mounts, late 1930s - early 1940s, signatures when present are those of Aaron Church and Franklyn Church. Shot locations include New York City, coastal New England, the American West and Mexico. People and architecture are the dominant subjects. Several of the Franklyn Church images have labels indicating that they were entered for competition at Dewitt Clinton High School in New York. One signed Aaron Church image, titled "Cathedral Passage," is framed with two ribbons, one a 3rd Prize from the Metropolitan Camera Club of Pace Institute, New York, 1940; the second ribbon states the image was hung in the Kodak Building at the New York World's Fair. The unframed photographs are housed in their original black cardboard portfolio.

The mats show considerable aging, stains and chipping. Most of the prints, however, would present very well if re-mounted and framed.
