The first, after Charles-Michelange Challe (1718 - 1778), "Quand l' Hymen dort l' Amour veille" ("When Marriage sleeps, Love awakes"), a colored stipple engraving by Maucler, circa 1780s. In early gilt composition frame. (DOA 17.5 x 20.5 in.) (Chips to the frame, marginal damp stains to the print). the second, after Nicholas Berghem (Dutch, 1624 - 1683), "Retour Au Village," colored copperplate engraving of a river ford scene, by Emmanuel Ghendt of Paris, circa 1780s. Behind mat in 20th century wooden frame. (DOA 18.5 x 21.75 in.) (Light soiling and scattered foxing; some marginal creasing).
