Partially rubbed hallmarks; the maker's mark is an IH with a dot in between, all under a crown (att. John Hamilton who worked in Dublin on Ormond Quay). The verso with period engraved crest of an arm in armor holding a dagger above the monogrammed "RSR."

John Hamilton was a Freeman in 1709, and served two periods as master warden of the Company of Goldsmiths of Dublin, in 1710 and 1714. He was elected to the Common Council of the City of Dublin on four occasions between 1714 and 1740. He died in 1751. (courtesy Weldon Jewellers, Dublin, Ireland).
