The globular body supported on three short legs issuing from finely carved and detailed animal masks, the elaborately carved and pierced foo dog handles suspend loose circular rings, the cover with fearsome foo dog in battle with another animal. All carved from a single piece of chloromelanite jade ranging in color from a semi-translucent milky white to deep green to tan to an opaque almost black. Presented on the likely original carved hardwood stand

Estate of the late Frances Hoefle of Sarasota, Florida and LaJolla, California. She and her husband, Robert, traveled extensively throughout Hong Kong, Africa, India, and elsewhere during the 1950s and 1960s. A life-long collector of fine art and antiques, she served as a docent at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with the public.

Retaining the broken rings which once hung loose from three carvings on the cover.
