"New - York / Winter Scene in Broadway," after Hippolyte Sebron (FR., 1801 - 1879), engraved by Paul Girardet and published by Michael Knoedler, 1857. This evocative documentary vignette, set between Prince and Spring Streets, captures New York's dynamic urban pace shortly before the Civil War. Of special note are the helmeted firemen assembling in response to an urgent summons. Behind glass in old wooden frame.
