A five-cent CSA #4 with linear manuscript cancel, the back inscribed "from Peters Burg May the 11th 1862", addressed to Meadows of Dan, VA, light soiling and overall aging; accompanying the cover is a primitive sketch of the famous March 8-9, 1862 duel between the C.S.S. Virginia and the U.S.S. Monitor, 2.75 x 7.75 in. A 20th century collector's note states that "this was inside of the above cover." The picture is possibly of war date vintage since it is on period lined notebook paper and has stains consistent with age.
