As follows: (5) stamped and canceled Union patriotic covers, (2) of which are canceled in Nashville, TN. All stained, fair to good condition. Includes (4) unrelated letters as follows: 1. ALS by Jairus T. Hammond, Co. "K", 26th Massachusetts Infantry, Ship Island, MS, December 25, 1861, to his family, Wendell Depot, MA, 4 pp., 8vo, with original cover having a blue Baltimore cds and DUE 3 handstamp. The letter contains descriptive content regarding the author's posting and includes a penny song sheet titled "Red, White & Blue #2." Overall good condition. 2-3. (2) ALS "Tom" of Massachusetts, the first from Arlington Heights, VA, September 14, 1861, 4 pp., 8vo, mentions seeing Abraham Lincoln "...the next day marched to W. to show off to the President. Walked around the White House. The President came out and took off his hat to us..."; the second letter, Camp Barn's, VA, October 6, 1861, 4 pp., 8vo, comes with its original franked cover with Washington cds. 4. ALS "W C Dodd," Rappahanock Station, VA, August 16, 1863, 4 pp., 8vo, to his sister. Gettysburg is mentioned here "...I don't think we have enough of men to whip old Lee our army has been reduced...since the fight in penn we had about 20,000 men killed and wounded and prisners (sic) and the rebs lost about 40,000 killed and wounded ...if old lee had whipped us there he would have took Harisburg (sic) baltimore Washington City and Ny Philadelphia..." Very good condition.
