The first, (4.25 in.), being enameled bronze with figural decoration, a pierced ivory handle and a green glass clapper. The top of the handle is carved with a Chinese character. With an early 20th century hang tag inscribed "Pekin, China modern enamel - but very old carved ivory." The second bell, (3.25 in.), is of toned brass with polychrome decoration. An accompanying note claims it is an 18th century item.

The ivory enjoys a mellow age patina. Brass bell with spots of cobalt enamel loss.
