An important and rare NC piece, the bold baluster form cup with an applied die-rolled floral and foliate decorated foot, an applied die-rolled border to mouth, an applied "C" scroll handle, the underside with "B. Dupuy" in rectangular punch and two left-ward facing eagles in squared punch. The front with hand-engraved script "W Dallas Haywood" [William Dallas Haywood (1810-1894), son of Stephen Haywood and Delia Hawkins, married to Mary Eliza Cannon, he served as Intendant of Police in 1850 and mayor of Raleigh from 1857-1858 and 1867-1868].
