Of rectangular form, the hinged cover opens to reveal an engraved inscription reading "A Token of Respect / From A / Sincere Friend" and "To Mr. Charles Armstrong," with Birmingham 1827 hallmarks and "TS" sponsor's mark (likely for Thomas Shaw), the interior fire gilt, the exterior with engine turned decoration, the cover with rectangular cartouche engraved with the Armstrong family crest of an arm in full armor, with applied floral motif clasp.
