North Carolina Long Rifle by Enoch Kennedy,

Moore County, ca. 1830 - 1850, percussion, 36" octagonal barrel numbered 56 with 3/8" bore, 52.5" LOA, walnut half stock, brass furniture includes distinctive star-topped Kennedy patchbox, iron lockplate and hammer with floral engraving.

This rifle is illustrated on page 126 in "Gunsmiths of the Carolinas, 1660 - 1870" by James Whisker, Glen Bryan, Lou Russo and Ray McKnight.

Enoch Kennedy was a son of renowned gunmaker David Kennedy, a Pennsylvanian who relocated to North Carolina in the 1790s.

Finish loss and age crack to stock, moderate pitting to iron elements, action not working, old collection number on left side of butt.
