19th century, the central figure is Milarepa, beloved in Tibet for the story of his life, he is depicted in an open-leg pose lilasana, he holds a kapala in his left hand and his right hand is cupped near his ear, all set within a green landscape populated with detailed lamas and Buddhist deities, presented loose in silk mat framed under glass.

A similar painting of Milarepa from the 19th century is in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) collection (accession number M.82.165.2). LACMA is known for having the finest Himalayan art collection in the United States.

Very good condition; some creasing and cracking to painting probably from previous rolled storage; some minor loss to pigments; possible retouching.
