The saber's 36 in. blade marked HORSTMANN & SONS / PHILADELPHIA on the ricasso, its leather grip bound in brass wire, and the scabbard marked S & K / J.M on the drag. (LOA 43.5 in.) ( moderate wear to the scabbard's finish; the saber's blade remains bright; minor chips to grip leather; brass guard with old patina; very good condition overall); the image is a quarter-plate tintype behind a brass mat stamped with a Union shield in each corner, the subject an unidentified teenage boy in a regulation uniform while armed with a drawn Colt and cavalry saber (light creases and crazing to the emulsion; wear to the case; overall good condition).
