( moderate wear to the scabbard's finish; the saber's blade remains bright; minor chips to grip leather; brass guard with old patina; very good condition overall); the image is a quarter-plate tintype behind a brass mat stamped with a Union shield in each corner, the subject an unidentified teenage boy in a regulation uniform while armed with a drawn Colt and cavalry saber (light creases and crazing to the emulsion; wear to the case; overall good condition).
