Mid-19th century, the heavily gilded lacquered box with a processional scene amid temples on the lid and sides, the pewter liner engraved with immortals and ruyi clouds, handles on both sides of exterior and key hole on front panel, initials of consigner's family ancestor US Naval Officer Samuel Thomas, decorate interior box lid.
