Qing dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century, mark on underside of base to both, a pair of pewter candlesticks in deer form standing on a raised rectangular decorative base, applied gilt and red polychrome add extra richness to the finely carved deer, the deer both stand with one front leg raised, their bodies are decorated with incised flowers, they both hold candle prickets in their mouths embellished with bats and flowers and leaves, the deer have glass eyes giving them even more of a realistic appearance, deer and bats are symbols of longevity and good fortune making this pair very auspicious.
