Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Engravings with hand coloring, on laid paper, 18th century, to include "The Turkey Buzzard" and "The Lark," from the first edition of The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands, each sheet bears "IHS" over "I Villedary" watermark, unframed.

Platemark 10 1/2 x 14 1/2 in., Sheet Size 13 3/4 x 18 1/8 in. (the first); Platemark 14 x 10 1/4 in., Sheet Size 17 5/8 x 13 5/8 in. (the second)

The "IHS" over "I Villedary" watermark references French papermaker Jean Villedary (1668-1758) and indicates that these engravings are from Catesby's first edition of The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands.

The first wish some light scattered foxing and several nicks at edges; toning, some stains, nicks, and color fading to the second.
