This particular print is from the collection of the Tufts family, who were the founders of Pinehurst. James Walker Tufts developed this area in the Sandhills of North Carolina as a resort town in 1895, and it was as initially referred to as "Tuftstown." Following James Walker Tufts' death at the turn of the 20th century, his grandson Leonard succeeded him in operating the business, and this is the name printed at the lower right of this poster.
