Born in Youngstown, OH, Cucaro found his inspiration in San Francisco in the 1950s and 1960s. A one-man exhibition of his work was featured at the Butler Institute of American Art in 1958, followed by other exhibitions in California, as well as Hawaii and Japan. He was nominated for the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1965.
