Probably Japanese, Meiji period (1868-1912) with a depiction of the Kannon, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, in raised relief on the top, the scene is highlighted with gilt embellishments including a halo behind Kannon, swirling clouds, and touches to the leaves and vase, underside of cover is weighted and silver in appearance with mark.
