Born in Germany, Peter Dean immigrated to the United States with his family in 1938. His work is characterized by fantastical figural scenes executed in a heavy impasto of bright colors. In 1984, his paintings were exhibited alongside those of fellow expressionist luminaries Edvard Munch, Chaim Soutine, and James Ensor at the Galleri Bellman on 57th Street in New York City.
Peter Dean's paintings are in numerous public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., the Art Institute of Chicago, IL, and the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC.

Overall good apparent condition; some spots to frame of the second; not examined out of frames.
