Late Ming or early Qing dynasty, 17th century, this immense painting is a striking composition with mountain peaks above a landscape dominated by swirling Chinese clouds meeting with surging waves, above a red moon against a dark blue sky, probably depicting the mythical island of Fanghu, one of the residences of the immortals, the immortals are seen here in groups in various areas of the island easily identified by their attributes, framed under glass, not examined outside of the frame.
