Daoguang period (1821-1850) four character mark in iron red, a porcelain snuff bottle decorated in polychrome enamels with a katydid on either side, this was a popular subject for snuff bottles during the early 19th century because it represented courage, An emblem of courage, the katydid in Chinese is pronounced guoguo, which sounds the same as the word country, such a pun would have been a subtle way of reminding officials of an essential feature of Confucian government.
