Late Edo period or early Meiji period, includes three finely articulated birds of varying sizes, two are koro incense burners with removable wings and lifted feathers for allowing the smoke to escape.

Tallest 5 3/4 in.

Finely crafted okimono became popular during the period of peace beginning in the late 17th century. The former samurai warriors became courtiers and administrators and the makers of samurai armour adapted as well using their skills to make finely crafted sculptures.

General rubbing and wear to surface; one bird with loss to one claw on left foot; some wear and loss to lower wing on duck.
