Pastel on paper with canvas backing, signed at lower right, presented under glass in an ornate period gilt composition frame.

An exhibition of portraits by Tartoué was mounted at M. Knoedler in 1912 at Knoedler Galleries in New York. A noted celebrity and social portrait painter, Tartoué painted Marjorie Merriweather Post and King Gustav V of Sweden. In the 1930s through the 1950s, Tartoué traveled to Oklahoma to paint and photograph American Indians.

Tear to sheet at upper right; minor transfer of pastel to glass; some minor rubbing and chipping to frame.
