This rare wood engraving is from Leighton's The Farmer's Year, a series that documents farming life for each month of the calendar year. In addition to Leighton's international recognition, she holds particular relevance to North Carolina as she was a member of the Department of Art, Aesthetics, and Music at Duke University from 1943-45.
