Circa 1890s, watercolor and oil on silk, with five red seals including one resembling Empress Dowager Cixi, inscribed in black ink to top right hand side, delicate and beautiful painting of peonies in silverly blue and white with green and brown leaves and branches, now presented under a mat in a frame under glass, not examined outside of the frame.

DOA 15 1/8 x 17 1/8 in.; SS 9.25 x 10.75 in.

Presented to Elmer Shanstrom by Empress Dowager of China in the late 1890s.

Foxing spots to silk; creases from painting being folded.
