20th century, ink and colors on silk, the figure dressed as a Chinese general fills almost the entire composition with calligraphy and a red artist's seal to the upper right corner, the general is dressed very similar to Guan Yu,
a general serving under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han dynasty of China, and is remember fondly in the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, his deeds and moral qualities make Guan Yu one of East Asia's most popular icons of loyalty and righteousness, framed, not examined outside of the frame.
