19th century or earlier, carved wood with pigments, with bells around their necks and mouths opening with oversized tongues hanging out, the male lion stands with a ball under his front paw, the female lion stands with a cub under her front paw, together they act as guardians against evil spirits and are often placed in the doorway of homes and temples, the bases are carved with coins for good luck and fortune.

24 x 14 x 10 in.

Good estate condition; some loss to pigments and nicks to areas of lions; rubbing and wear consistent with age.
