19th century, a pair of protective foo lions, one female and one male, finely cast with curled mane and tail, bell collar around their necks, ferocious eyes and open mouths baring their teeth, in Asian culture these foo lions would be placed outside of the front door for protection of the family or business within against evil spirits.
