19th or 20th century, one is shaped like a melon with incised decoration of gourds and vines together with ornate butterflies, and the second box is red lacquer and shaped like a persimmon with gilt stem to top center, incised decoration with swastika symbols representing life or birth, ruyi scepters, bats and vines with gourds.

Wear and loss to gilt to veins on melon box; cracking to black lacquer on the interior and possible repairs to joining rim; persimmon box has wear and loss to black lacquer decoration on cover; repair to stem finial; some cracking and possible repair to interior black lacquer surface.
