This arresting work by Muzi Quawson is exemplary of the photographer's complex cinematic style that explores American subcultures and the notion of freedom. In creating Pull Back the Shade, Quawson spent four years photographing the life of Amanda Jo Williams, a young mother and musician in Woodstock, New York. This series was first unveiled at the Tate Britian, London in 2006.
